Naira In Crisis: Odumeje Makes Bold Return To Combat Depreciation

Controversial clergyman, Chukwuemeka Cyril Ohanaemere, famously known as Odumeje, has announced his return to Nigeria with a bold mission: to halt the decline of the naira against the dollar. The self-proclaimed pastor, based in Onitsha, made this declaration during a meeting with Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) personnel upon his arrival from London, United Kingdom, on Friday.

Odumeje, who often flaunts his supposed array of spiritual abilities, embarked on a trip to the UK earlier in the month to host a comedy event. Now back in Nigeria, he asserts his determination to reverse the naira’s downward trajectory, emphasizing his reputation as a man of immense power and action.

“This is Indaboski Bahose. The war and the battle. A man full of power and activities. The only man who tells you ‘I will bring down the dollar’ and gets it done. When I left the country, the dollar began to rise; now, I am back, I will continue where I stopped,” Odumeje proclaimed.

It’s worth recalling Odumeje’s earlier claim of being responsible for boosting the naira’s value, attributing it to one of his supernatural abilities, when the currency recorded a 12% gain against the dollar in early April, following a 14% surge in March.

However, recent reports indicate a depreciation of the naira to N1,320 against the dollar in the parallel market on Friday. Additionally, at the official exchange window, the local currency experienced a 2.24% decline to N1,339.23 against the dollar on the same day, compared to N1,309.88 on April 25, 2024.
