Trial Of Ex-Benue Governor Suswam For Alleged Fraud Delayed By Court Adjournment

The trial of former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, on charges of ₦3.1 billion money laundering has been postponed by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja until May 8, 2024. The adjournment was confirmed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a statement released on Thursday.

According to the EFCC statement, Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has rescheduled the trial dates to May 8th and 10th, 2024, for the continuation of proceedings against Gabriel Suswam, the former governor of Benue State, in the alleged ₦3.1 billion money laundering case brought against him.

Suswam stands accused of allegedly attempting to influence the outcome of his trial by bribing a former Federal High Court Judge in Abuja, Ahmed R. Mohammed. The purported bribery, which involved a transaction of foreign currency amounting to ₦500 million, is said to have taken place at the Transcorp Hilton hotel in Abuja in 2019.
