Police Apprehend Six Alleged Motorbike Thieves And Accomplices In Ekiti State
Eight men suspected of involvement in the theft and subsequent sale of stolen motorbikes have been apprehended by the police in Ekiti State.
According to Mr. Adeniran Akinwale, the Commissioner of Police for Ekiti State, the suspects, including individuals named Adebayo Bashiru, Oluyemi Kunle, Gabriel Isaac, Abubakar Abdullahi, Macon Andrew, and Peter Ninfa, are believed to have operated within the Ikere/Ado-Ekiti and Igede-Ekiti regions.
The arrests were made by the command’s Rapid Response Squad following a tip-off, as stated in a release by the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, on Thursday.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted to numerous motorbike thefts in the Ikere/Ado/Igede-Ekiti area, implicating Lawali Ibrahim and Kabiru Abdullahi as their associates who purchased the stolen motorcycles from them for resale. Subsequent efforts led to the apprehension of these buyers, who confessed to transporting seven of the stolen motorcycles to the Northern region of Nigeria for resale.
At the time of their arrest, the police recovered an unregistered yellow Bajaj Boxer motorcycle. Several victims positively identified this motorcycle as the one used by the thieves during robberies.
The Commissioner of Police affirmed that investigations would continue to capture all other individuals involved in motorbike theft, with plans to prosecute the suspects in court once investigations are concluded.
