President Bola Tinubu has enacted a prohibition on the procurement of petrol-dependent vehicles by members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), directing all government ministries, departments, and agencies to acquire vehicles powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
This mandate, as confirmed in a statement released on Monday by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, underscores Tinubu’s dedication to ensuring energy security, enhancing efficiency, and curbing the exorbitant costs associated with fuel consumption.
Ngelale emphasized that the President’s decision aligns with Nigeria’s ongoing transition to cleaner energy sources, citing the reduced emissions and cost-effectiveness of CNG-powered vehicles as key factors driving this shift.
Earlier on Monday, during a meeting with FEC members at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to energy reforms, stressing the imperative for change and progress.
Ngelale reiterated Tinubu’s directives, stating that all proposals for the purchase of traditional petrol-dependent vehicles are to be rejected, with FEC members tasked to seek out value-driven procurement options for CNG-compliant vehicles.
Tinubu’s focus remains on harnessing Nigeria’s gas potential, alleviating transportation costs for the populace, and improving overall living standards.
