Armed bandits have launched an assault on a military camp in the Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, resulting in the tragic loss of five soldiers and the injury of 11 others. Additionally, several civilians and a member of the local vigilante group lost their lives during the attack.
According to a military internal communication obtained by The Leadership, the incursion was carried out by more than 200 heavily armed terrorists, led by the notorious bandit leader Ado Aleiru, who targeted the Yar Malamai village military camp.
The memo states: “Terrorist attack on military camp resulting in serious injuries and fatalities among military personnel.”
During the incident, 30-year-old Aliyu Tukur, a member of the local vigilante group, was among those tragically killed.
Supol Faskari and his team promptly responded to the scene, engaging the bandits in a fierce confrontation with air support from the Air Force. Despite their efforts, significant losses were suffered.
The intense battle, spanning over two hours, compelled the military to relocate the remaining forces to a safer location approximately 25 kilometers away, due to the substantial casualties incurred. While the bandits also sustained heavy losses, they managed to retreat from the area.
Subsequently, the terrorists returned to Yarmalamai village, setting homes ablaze and escalating the violence, although specific casualty figures from this subsequent attack remain unconfirmed.
