Tensions escalated in Kano State as reports emerged of gunfire on Monday night near the temporary dwelling of the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, situated in Nasarawa GRA, close to the Kano Government House. The mini palace, where Bayero has been residing since his deposition, is located approximately 300 meters away from the Kano Government House. This area, known for its restricted vehicular access, has been under intense surveillance by a joint security task force due to ongoing disputes over the emirate’s leadership.

According to accounts, the gunfire followed an earlier incident at the main Emir’s palace, where reinstated Emir Lamido Sanusi resides. Armed hunters reportedly attempted to intervene with protesters urging the Kano governor to comply with a court order restraining the removal of Ado Bayero. However, the presence of security personnel at the palace averted any escalation of violence during the confrontation.

Sources from Premium Times suggest that the gunfire near Bayero’s residence might have been an effort to thwart any attempts to apprehend the deposed emir following a state High Court order mandating his eviction from the palace issued earlier that day.

The sound of gunfire triggered panic among residents and passersby, with some commuters altering their routes due to apprehensions of a potential assault on the palace. It remains unclear whether the gunfire originated from security personnel or palace guards.

These developments ensued following a court order from the Kano State High Court directing the removal of the dethroned Emir, Ado Bayero, from his palace. The court issued an interim injunction, restraining Ado Bayero and his counterparts in Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye Emirates from presenting themselves as emirs, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed by the Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, and the Kano State House of Assembly
