It is a grave disservice to the APC and the good people of Edo State to witness the tissue of lies and cheap blackmail being peddled by Hon. Kassim Afegbua in his recent AIT interview. What Afegbua attempts to frame as “courage” is, in reality, a desperate and disrespectful script aimed at undermining the hard-earned reputation of the Honorable Minister, Engr. Abubakar Momoh.

The Governor and the Minister Are And Have Unbroken Synergy
It is deeply disappointing, though not surprising, that Afegbua despite serving as the Commissioner for Information is following a tired script by attempting to drag our Executive Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, into his cheap popularity narrative. The claim that the Honorable Minister is working at cross-purposes with the Governor is not only false but maliciously fabricated from his small head.

One only needs to look at the pre- and post-election synergy between these two leaders, which ensured Senator Okpebholo’s victory, to see they are on the same page for the progress of Edo State. Afegbua’s attempt to create a rift where none exists is a classic “divide and rule” tactic that has no place in modern Edo politics.

The “Soft Target” Syndrome and Political Insecurity
It is baffling why the likes of Kassim Afegbua have chosen the Honorable Minister as a “soft target” to score cheap political points. We have observed this pattern before not too long ago, even the State Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, towed a similar line, displaying a blatant lack of respect for the Minister’s office. This coordinated disrespect and the “puppeteer” narrative are nothing more than a smokescreen to hide the political insecurities of those who feel threatened by the Minister’s deep-rooted grassroots appeal.

On Grassroots Engagement All Politics is Local
To mock a Minister for being involved with his people at the ward level is the height of political elitism. Unlike those who operate only from the comfort of Abuja and Benin, Engr. Abubakar Momoh understands that all politics is local.

His engagement with ward leadership is not “imposition” but a necessary effort to ensure the party’s foundation remains solid. Comparing his style to other Ministers is irrelevant. Engr. Momoh’s brand of leadership is built on accessibility and grassroots empowerment.

A Call for Order and Party Discipline
It is high time this culture of internal blackmail and public disrespect came to a stop. Engr. Abubakar Momoh is a leader to be reckoned with, and it is shameful that a sitting Commissioner and party member would rather play to the gallery of the opposition than build party unity.

The people of Etsako East and Edo State are not fooled by Afegbua’s “truth-to-power” facade. They see it for what it truly is, a bitter attempt to diminish a man whose political capacity and influence extend far beyond the narrow spheres Afegbua occupies.

Focus on the 2027 Mandate
To be honest, Engr. Abubakar Momoh is too occupied with actualizing the mandate of the Presidency to be swayed by such antics. His focus remains on ensuring that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu returns to the Villa in 2027. This campaign of calumny will never distract the Minister from delivering on the mandate given to him by his boss, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

We stand firmly with the Honorable Minister and urge the purveyors of lies to learn the basic tenets of loyalty and standard party discipline.

To Hon. Commissioner Kassim Afegbua and your cohorts Enough is enough.

Signed,

Prince T’deen Asunogie
