Abalagha, who recently chaired a meeting of Niger Delta elders in Bayelsa State, criticized Ibori for his stance. He argued that Ibori, as a statesman, should align his actions and statements with the principles of good governance. Abalagha pointed out that the local government elections conducted by state governors are often not representative of the people’s will, and he stressed the importance of local governments in delivering development to the grassroots.

He expressed disappointment that Ibori, who is a significant figure, would oppose a widely supported decision and questioned what Ibori might gain from maintaining the status quo that benefits governors at the expense of local governments. Abalagha suggested that Ibori’s criticism might indicate a deeper, perhaps political, motivation, speculating whether Ibori’s opposition is influenced by his connections to certain political interests or a desire to challenge the current administration.

Abalagha also speculated that Ibori’s position might be influenced by his ties to the PDP and its leadership, hinting that his opposition could be part of a broader strategy to undermine the Tinubu presidency for political gain.
