Commandant of the NSCDC FCT Command, Olusola Odumosu, revealed on Wednesday that the suspects were apprehended through a coordinated effort involving the NSCDC’s covert operatives and the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Tactical Team, which have been monitoring activities in the capital city.
The first group of four suspects was arrested early on Saturday at the Idu Layout CITEC around 2:10 am. They were found in possession of stolen solar panel poles. The suspects, identified as Sani Garba, Umar Aminu, Adekunle Oluwatoyin Eniola, and Emmanuel John, are from Kano, Osun, and Enugu states, respectively.
The second group of four suspects was arrested the following day, Sunday, at approximately 1:30 am, in the Bannex-Gishiri area while attempting to transport five stolen streetlight poles. These individuals, identified as Hosea Christopher, Ali Musa, John Sylvester, and Idris Suleiman, are from Kaduna and Katsina states.
Recovered from the suspects were five large streetlight poles, one solar panel pole, and over 40 iron rods.
Odumosu expressed concern over the growing destruction of public infrastructure and emphasized the NSCDC’s commitment to addressing the issue. He vowed to continue intensifying efforts to protect public assets in the FCT and warned vandals to leave the area.
“We will not allow the efforts of the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, in infrastructural development to be sabotaged by a few individuals,” Odumosu stated. “We are determined to eliminate vandalism, and we will not back down until it is eradicated.”
The suspects are currently under investigation, and once the investigation is concluded, they will face legal charges.
