The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man identified as Edwin Nwabueze, who reportedly described himself as a pastor, over alleged involvement in an interstate vehicle theft syndicate.

The command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued to journalists on Friday, October 30, explaining that the investigation followed the theft of a Toyota Camry at UTC Plaza in the Garki District of Abuja.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Nwabueze is originally from Oji River in Enugu State but resides in Benue State, where he allegedly identifies himself as a pastor with Salvation Power Bible Ministry in the North Bank area.

Adeh said police operatives arrested him at his residence after sustained investigations into the reported vehicle theft.

Following his arrest, Nwabueze reportedly led investigators to another location, where they apprehended an alleged accomplice identified as Sadiq Jamiu.

The police spokesperson further revealed that preliminary investigations had linked Nwabueze to previous arrests by the Benue State Police Command in connection with vehicle theft cases.

According to the command, further findings suggested that the two suspects were allegedly members of an interstate vehicle theft syndicate specialising in stealing and selling vehicles across different states in the country.

Adeh stated that investigators were working to uncover the full scale of the alleged criminal network and identify other individuals suspected of participating in its operations.

She added that efforts were ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate who remain at large.

The police confirmed that the arrested suspects were being held in custody and would be charged before a court upon the conclusion of investigations.

However, the allegations against Nwabueze and Jamiu remain subject to judicial determination.
