Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday, the lawmaker, who represents Yagba Federal Constituency in Kogi State, flatly rejected the coalition, asserting, “It’s not going anywhere.”

The opposition alliance, revealed on Wednesday by top political figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, named ADC as its platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

But Abejide, who branded himself the “face and financier” of the ADC, made it clear that he had no involvement in, nor did he endorse, the coalition’s formation.

“I’ve been part of this party since 2018, and truthfully, ADC is most visible in Kogi State. I don’t support this coalition,” he said, distancing himself from the effort.

He further revealed that Ralph Nwosu, ADC’s founder and former national chairman, invited him to coalition meetings — an offer he firmly turned down.

“I fund the party, and while the national chairman contacted me, I refused to participate. They tried everything to get me involved,” Abejide stated. “But I didn’t attend because I don’t believe in it. Why would I support something I know will fail?”

The lawmaker also expressed displeasure over the sudden influx of politicians from the PDP, Labour Party, and APC into ADC ranks, noting that he shares no common ground with many of them.

“Frankly, the people I feel politically aligned with are in the APC. I don’t relate to those now crowding into the ADC,” he said.

Addressing Ralph Nwosu’s resignation and the ongoing political realignments, Abejide acknowledged everyone’s right to associate freely, saying: “As President Tinubu rightly said, there is freedom of association. I could join the APC tomorrow and no one can stop me. But as far as I’m concerned, this coalition is headed nowhere.”
