CAF made this known in a statement on Monday, cautioning that sanctions could be imposed if those involved are found culpable.
According to Africa’s football governing body, the incident has been officially referred to its disciplinary committee for a comprehensive review.
“CAF has submitted the matter to the disciplinary board for investigation and will take appropriate action should any individual be found guilty of misconduct,” the statement said.
The decision follows tense scenes at the final whistle of Saturday’s encounter in Marrakesh.
Nigeria secured a 2–0 victory over Algeria, with second-half goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams booking the Super Eagles a place in the semi-finals.
Despite the convincing win, the match ended in controversy as players from both teams clashed after the game, raising concerns about discipline and sportsmanship.
CAF noted that any disciplinary measures resulting from the probe could impact Nigeria’s preparations for their semi-final clash against tournament hosts Morocco on Wednesday.
The football body also confirmed that it is reviewing incidents from Friday’s quarter-final between Morocco and Cameroon.
Although Morocco claimed a 2–0 win in Rabat, the match was overshadowed by disputes over officiating decisions, particularly Cameroon’s anger over a denied penalty appeal involving Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo.
The incidents have intensified scrutiny of officiating standards and player behaviour as CAF seeks to uphold discipline in the latter stages of the tournament.
