Aircraft Deficiency Cited By NCAA As Major Reason For Nigeria’s Flight DisruptionsThe Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has identified the lack of capacity among Nigerian airlines as the primary cause of flight disruptions and delays in the country.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA, made this statement during an interview with DAILY POST at an agency event in Abuja on Wednesday. His comments come in response to the increasing number of flight delays and cancellations affecting passengers in Nigeria’s aviation sector.

Achimugu emphasized that the shortage of adequate aircraft among Nigerian airline operators is a significant factor contributing to these disruptions. He noted that the recent signing of the Cape Town Convention (CTC) practice direction, which allows domestic airlines to access aircraft on dry lease, is a step taken by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to address the issue.

He also mentioned plans to calibrate the country’s airports as an additional measure to mitigate flight disruptions. “In Nigeria, we face a capacity problem. We simply do not have enough aircraft to transport passengers nationwide. The Honourable Minister has acknowledged this. We need to be transparent about the issue, but there are solutions in place. The signing of the Cape Town Convention will facilitate the arrival of more planes in the country,” he said.

Achimugu added, “Lack of capacity is the main reason for flight disruptions. A delay in the morning can cascade and affect subsequent flights. Additionally, some airports require calibration from the government’s side.
