Nigerian activist Aisha Yesufu has weighed in on the recent demonstration by Kano State residents in response to the proposed intervention by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to reinstate democracy in Niger Republic.
ECOWAS had issued a directive on Thursday, instructing member states’ military forces to be prepared for the restoration of democratic governance in the neighboring West African nation.

“Aisha Yesufu Responds to Nasir El-Rufai’s Ministerial Appointment Situation”
In response to the recent public mockery faced by Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, due to his ministerial appointment, activist Aisha Yesufu has offered her perspective.
Reports indicated that El-Rufai had withdrawn his ministerial nomination and recommended a replacement following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu earlier in the week.
Originally chosen to lead the new Ministry of Power and Energy, El-Rufai expressed his commitment to addressing Nigeria’s electricity challenges during his Senate screening.
Despite his assurances, security concerns were raised by a representative for Kogi West, Sunday Karimi, leading to a pause in his confirmation along with two other nominees due to security clearance issues.
Amidst these events, Aisha Yesufu retweeted a video showing President Tinubu urging El-Rufai not to travel abroad for further education, emphasizing the country’s need for him at this critical juncture.
A Twitter user questioned what had changed regarding El-Rufai’s appointment, considering Tinubu’s appeal. In response, Aisha Yesufu asserted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) aimed to demean El-Rufai and expose the illusion of power he possessed.
She tweeted, “Nothing changed. They needed to humiliate Nasir El Rufai @elrufai and make it clear to everyone that the illusion of power he had was just an illusion.
He was the untouchable that was deliberately touched and tossed around. Everyone needed to be shown who was in charge and they had.”
