Aisha Yesufu Reveals Why She Still Doesn’t Regret Voting APC In 2015

Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) chieftain, Aisha Yesufu, has explained why she does not regret voting for the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2015 presidential election.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Yesufu said her decision to support the APC was largely influenced by the choice of former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as the party’s running mate rather than by former President Muhammadu Buhari himself.

Speaking during an interview on the Kaa Truth podcast, Yesufu explained that she had been influenced by reports that Buhari would delegate significant responsibilities to his vice president, particularly in the area of economic management.

She noted that her support for the APC ticket was based on her expectation that Osinbajo would play a major role in running the country’s economy if the party won the election.

Yesufu maintained that she would not describe her decision to vote for the APC in 2015 as a mistake, despite her subsequent criticisms of the political situation in Nigeria.

She recalled that Buhari had a reputation for delegating responsibilities during his time as a military head of state, when the late Tunde Idiagbon handled significant aspects of governance.

According to Yesufu, the expectation that Osinbajo would similarly be given substantial responsibilities, particularly over the economy, was a major factor behind her decision to support the APC presidential ticket.

She also argued that the performance of the then-incumbent administration under former President Goodluck Jonathan contributed to making Buhari and the APC more acceptable to many Nigerians ahead of the 2015 election.

Yesufu’s comments have renewed discussions about the political calculations and expectations that influenced voters during the 2015 presidential election, as well as how those expectations have shaped opinions about the APC years later.
