APC Chairman Apologises After Telling Wives To Divorce Their Husbands

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe State, Muhammad Gadaka, has apologised and withdrawn his controversial remark advising women to divorce husbands who prevent them from voting for the ruling party in the 2027 elections.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Gadaka made the controversial statement while addressing APC supporters at a political gathering in Nangere Local Government Area of Yobe State. He reportedly urged women whose husbands opposed their support for the APC to consider ending their marriages and even offered to pay the dowry of those who followed his advice.

The comments sparked widespread reactions after a video of the incident circulated on social media, with critics condemning the statement and questioning the appropriateness of such advice from a senior political figure.

Amid the backlash, Gadaka issued an apology and said he had withdrawn the remarks. He explained that the comments were made in a joking manner during traditional banter and were not intended as serious instructions for married women to end their relationships because of political differences.

Gadaka said he regretted the controversy surrounding his statement and maintained that promoting divorce does not reflect his personal values or principles.

He clarified that his remarks should not be interpreted as an attempt to encourage the breakdown of marriages, insisting that they were taken out of the context in which they were made.

The Yobe APC chairman’s clarification came as the controversial video continued to generate debate, particularly with political activities and preparations for the 2027 general elections gaining momentum across the country.
