Akpabio Fires Back: Denies Responsibility For Ningi’s Suspension....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has clarified that he bears no responsibility for the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP – Bauchi Central) and has not received any formal request from Senator Ningi for his reinstatement.

Ningi’s suspension stemmed from remarks made during a BBC Hausa interview, alleging a N3.7 billion padding in the 2024 fiscal budget. Following a robust debate among Senators during plenary, Ningi was suspended for three months and instructed to tender an apology to the Senate.

However, in a letter penned by his legal representative, Femi Falana (SAN), Ningi accused Akpabio of assuming multiple roles—accuser, prosecutor, and judge—in contravention of constitutional provisions.

The Bauchi lawmaker issued a seven-day ultimatum to Akpabio to reverse his suspension or face legal repercussions.

In response, Akpabio’s Media Special Adviser, Eseme Eyiboh, clarified that the Senate, as an institution, imposed Ningi’s suspension and not the Senate President personally.

Eyiboh emphasized that Ningi’s attempt to coerce Akpabio into reinstating him was unfounded, as the decision to suspend him was a collective action by the Senate.

He underscored the institutional nature of the Senate, stating that Ningi’s suspension was executed in accordance with established rules, dissociating any individual’s involvement, including Akpabio’s, from the disciplinary measures.

It is pertinent to note that the suspension was a decision taken within the Senate’s legal framework and not a unilateral action attributable to any individual.
