Akpabio’s Aide Breaks Silence, Defends Wife’s Controversial Senate Visit

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has cautioned traditional rulers across the state against taking active roles in partisan politics, stressing that traditional institutions should remain neutral and serve as a unifying authority for everyone.

Makinde issued the warning on Saturday in Eruwa during the first coronation anniversary of Samuel Adegbola, the Eleruwa of Eruwa. The governor was also honoured with the traditional title of Aare Asoludero of Ibarapaland during the event.

According to the governor, traditional rulers should regard people across different political affiliations as their children and avoid taking sides in political disputes. He warned that monarchs who become actively involved in politics could face criticism and verbal attacks.

Makinde maintained that traditional institutions can only preserve their dignity and the respect of the people when they remain above partisan politics.

He further stated that while monarchs are free to engage with political actors, they should not cross the line into active political participation.

Speaking about his ambition to become Nigeria’s president in 2027, Makinde said he was prepared to travel across the country to seek the support of Nigerians.

The governor, who is seeking the presidency on the platform of the Accord Party, said his ambition was not restricted to any particular region and that he intended to engage citizens across the country.

Makinde explained that his presidential aspiration would require extensive interaction with Nigerians in different parts of the country, where he plans to present his vision and seek their support for his bid to lead Nigeria.
