The union also raised concerns over the continued non-payment of salaries and other outstanding entitlements owed to its members.

The warning followed a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at Modibbo Adama University.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Monday, ASUU President, Professor Christopher Piwuna, outlined several unresolved issues, including withheld salaries for three and a half months, unpaid promotion arrears, salary discrepancies linked to the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System, unremitted third-party deductions, and outstanding arrears from the 25–35 percent wage award.

Piwuna said the government’s approach to these matters was worsening dissatisfaction among academic staff across the country.

He warned that growing frustration within the university system could trigger renewed industrial action if left unresolved.

According to him, “The increasing frustration occasioned by the government’s apparent lack of commitment to the welfare of Nigerian academics is building up anger that may lead to a new wave of industrial unrest if not addressed.”

The ASUU president urged both federal and state governments to fully implement the agreements reached with the union.

He also stated that ASUU remains open to dialogue, but stressed that its NEC would reconvene in the coming weeks to assess the situation and determine further action if necessary.

Piwuna added that the union is calling on stakeholders, including well-meaning Nigerians, to pressure governments at all levels to honour the agreement in the interest of students, parents, and the nation.

“Our doors remain open for engagement with government to achieve full implementation of our demands,” he said.

“However, NEC has directed that an emergency meeting be convened in the coming weeks to review developments and take appropriate action where necessary.
