Atiku Still Uncertain About 2027 Presidential Bid, Admits Advising Peter Obi To RunSegun Sowunmi, a former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar, has revealed that he has discussed the possibility of the former PDP presidential candidate running in the 2027 election. However, Sowunmi, who also contested for the Ogun State governorship, stated that Atiku has yet to give a definitive response on the matter.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Sowunmi made these remarks in Abuja on Monday during the launch of the National Opposition Movement Coalition, a platform aimed at strengthening opposition politics and promoting credible democratic and electoral processes in preparation for the 2027 elections. He emphasized that the focus should not solely be on Atiku, but rather on identifying leaders with a clear vision for Nigeria’s future.

“Who would have thought that Tinubu, given his background and history, would end up in the villa today? It shows that leadership is bigger than any one individual,” Sowunmi remarked.

Regarding Atiku’s potential 2027 bid, Sowunmi said, “Atiku hasn’t told me he’s running. I’ve asked him twice, and I’ll ask him once more. If he doesn’t give an answer, that’s it.”

Reflecting on the 2023 elections, Sowunmi shared that he had actively persuaded Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State, to contest the presidency under the PDP. He disclosed that he traveled extensively across the Southeast, meeting with PDP members, including Obi, urging him to purchase the nomination form and test the waters for support.

“Although Obi eventually joined the Labour Party without informing me, I commend him for bringing the aspirations of the Southeast to the national stage,” Sowunmi said. “But leadership is about more than just rhetoric; it’s about delivering real results, and that’s what we need from our leaders.”

Sowunmi further explained that the National Opposition Movement Coalition was created in response to the urgent need to protect Nigeria’s democracy amidst growing concerns over the country’s electoral integrity and governance.

He criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for failing to maintain election credibility despite improvements in its operational guidelines. Sowunmi also expressed concern over the diminishing credibility of the judiciary, warning that a weakened judiciary could pave the way for unchecked government power and undermine Nigeria’s democratic systems.
