This development was confirmed in a statement released on X on Sunday by counterterrorism and insurgency expert in the Lake Chad Basin, Zagazola Makama.
Makama noted that recent coordinated military actions have successfully dismantled several of Turji’s primary hideouts located in Fakai, Shinkafi Local Government Area.
The security expert highlighted that this progress follows a series of successful missions that led to the destruction of numerous bandit camps in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Makama identified the camps targeted by the military as Zangon Dan Gwandi, Zangon Tsaika, Zangon Kagara, and a school Turji allegedly used for storing food and weapons.
He further reported that the military set fire to the school to prevent it from being used as a supply depot for Turji’s operations.
“Intelligence sources confirmed to Zagazola Makama that Turji’s group has suffered significant losses. We killed his son and many of his fighters during the operation. I also heard Turji’s panicked voice calling for reinforcements from seven other bandit leaders. None of them showed up, and one of his spies narrowly escaped from us today,” the statement reads.
Additionally, many of Turji’s associates, including high-profile lieutenants and possibly family members, were neutralized during the targeted strikes.
“Further reports reveal that four of Turji’s fighters were injured in previous encounters, while others have retreated to Mangwarorin Gebe, allegedly hiding stolen livestock and valuables,” Makama said.
