The coordinated assaults, which struck Darajamal community in Bama Local Government Area and Monguno in Borno, left scores dead and many others abducted. In Darajamal, at least five soldiers and 58 civilians were killed, while women and girls were reportedly taken captive. Troops of the North-East Joint Task Force, “Operation Hadin Kai,” supported by the Air Component, swiftly responded and killed over 30 insurgents as they attempted to flee last Friday night.

Another attack in Monguno on Thursday claimed the lives of two Immigration officers. Expressing deep sorrow, Ndume prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the victims, asking that they be granted Aljannatul Firdaus.

The lawmaker urged the Federal Government to place greater priority on the security and welfare of Nigerians during this critical period.

“In the past few months, several communities in Borno South, North, and Central Senatorial Districts have remained under siege by Boko Haram/ISWAP. The situation is worrisome,” Ndume lamented.

He renewed his call for the establishment of armed community defense groups to complement military operations, noting that while the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), hunters, and vigilantes had been courageous, their limited weaponry made it difficult to match heavily armed terrorists.

Ndume further pressed for the deployment of what he described as Technology, Equipment, Arms, Ammunition, and Motivation (TEAAM), stressing that only such measures could bring an end to the over decade-long insurgency in Borno, the North-East, and other parts of Nigeria.

While commending the sacrifices of troops of Operation Hadin Kai and other security agencies for working tirelessly to restore peace, Ndume expressed concern over the growing frequency of attacks that have left communities across Borno in fear.
