In a now-viral interview circulating on social media, Stevenator explained that Asake’s meteoric rise to fame became overwhelming, making it difficult for him to keep up. He admitted that the demands of managing such a fast-growing star left him with little time for his family.
“I got the call from Olamide one day. He told me he had an artiste he wanted me to manage — that was my introduction to the world of talent management. I had never heard of Asake before then, nor had I listened to his music. But I’ve been close friends with Olamide for over 20 years, so I took the chance,” Stevenator said.
He continued, “Asake blew up almost instantly, and there was no room for learning on the job — it was non-stop. Meanwhile, I was missing out on my family. I had two sons and barely any time with them. I was always travelling, gone for months. I once brought them to London, and my younger son didn’t even let me carry him — he didn’t recognize me.”
Stevenator also thanked Olamide and the YBNL team for the opportunity, but emphasized that stepping down was necessary to strike a balance between work and family. “Asake became too big, and I had to be everywhere with him. I’m a family man, and I love my wife. For me, family comes first.”
