Abbas made the announcement at the Mallawa Eid Ground in Zaria, where he was joined by a large crowd of supporters, party members, community leaders, and political allies.
The declaration event was preceded by a solidarity walk involving thousands of supporters who marched from the Emir’s Palace through Babban Dodo, Lemu, Kofar Doka, and Tudun Wada before converging at the venue.
First elected to the House of Representatives in 2011, Abbas used the occasion to reflect on what he described as the tangible developmental impact of his years in office.
‘Results, Not Promises’
In his address, the Speaker said his decision to seek another term was anchored on performance and measurable achievements rather than rhetoric.
He maintained that his representation had delivered visible projects and interventions that improved livelihoods and strengthened development across the constituency.
“These are not theories. These are visible projects. These are measurable results,” he said.
Abbas added that his renewed ambition was based on a record he believes constituents can see and assess.
“Today, I formally declare my intention to seek another mandate to represent the good people of Zaria Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives,” he said.
He explained that from the outset of his tenure, he committed to ensuring that representation remained close to the people and focused on delivering real outcomes.
Legislative Performance and Constituency Projects
Abbas described his legislative record as one of the most active in the National Assembly, noting that he has sponsored 74 bills, with 21 already signed into law.
He said the bills were designed to address national challenges and improve governance rather than attract attention.
“These were not efforts designed for publicity. They were aimed at solving problems and strengthening governance,” he said.
On constituency projects, Abbas listed several empowerment programmes, including agricultural support for farmers through the distribution of tractors, fertilisers, and equipment to boost productivity.
He said transport operators, youth groups, party structures, and community leaders also benefited from tricycles and motorcycles aimed at improving livelihoods and mobility.
According to him, a total of 117 vehicles, 200 tricycles, and 1,000 motorcycles have been distributed across various communities and stakeholder groups.
He also highlighted financial empowerment initiatives, stating that 2,400 beneficiaries received direct support, while 800 trained individuals were given ₦250,000 each. In addition, 1,600 small business owners received ₦100,000 each to strengthen their enterprises.
Abbas said the interventions were necessary to support economic stability at the grassroots level.
“When our people needed direct economic support, we acted,” he said, adding that the initiatives reflect “practical representation.”
He concluded that a fifth term would enable him to consolidate ongoing projects and further expand development efforts in Zaria Federal Constituency.
