Malami announced the development in a statement released on Saturday via his social media handles, where he cited rising insecurity, widespread poverty, failing healthcare services, declining education standards, and worsening economic conditions as reasons for entering the race.

He said he could no longer stay silent while residents of Kebbi continue to endure what he described as deepening hardship and poor governance.

The former minister alleged that the state is facing a severe governance and humanitarian crisis, pointing to troubling figures in education, healthcare, and poverty levels.

According to him, over 67 percent of children aged between six and 15 are out of school, while more than 88 percent of children are living in multidimensional poverty.

Malami also raised concerns about the health sector, noting that maternal mortality rates remain high and that many rural communities still lack access to basic antenatal and medical care.

On insecurity, he said several communities are under constant threat from banditry and kidnapping, forcing farmers to abandon their farmlands while economic activities continue under fear.

He accused the current administration of failing to adequately respond to the worsening situation, arguing that governance priorities have been misplaced despite rising hardship across the state.

‘State of Emergency on Misgovernance’

Malami declared what he called a “State of Emergency on Misgovernance” in Kebbi State, promising to prioritise security, education reform, and healthcare improvement if elected governor in 2027.

He said his decision to run is driven by a commitment to service, accountability, and sustainable development, insisting that leadership failure and political rhetoric must give way to practical solutions.

The ADC governorship aspirant called on residents to support what he described as a collective effort to rebuild the state into a safer and more prosperous society.

“There will be no retreat and no surrender in the collective struggle to rescue our state,” he said.
