Hon. Bashir Ado, Special Adviser on Salary and Pension, and a key member of the minimum wage implementation committee, confirmed this on Saturday while addressing the press after casting his vote at Kanya Babba. When asked about the government’s timeline for implementing the new wage, Ado said, “Governor Umar Namadi has already approved the N70,000 minimum wage. The committee is finalizing its work, and we are close to full implementation.”
He explained that the committee has completed 90 percent of its task and will soon present the final report to Governor Namadi for approval of the new salary structure. The state has nine different salary structures, and even those already earning above the minimum wage will benefit from a consequential adjustment.
Ado highlighted that the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) was satisfied with the proposed wage increment, having seen the template and the new earnings for each civil servant. “I am confident that once civil servants receive their adjusted salaries, they will appreciate Governor Umar Namadi’s commitment to their welfare,” he added.
Earlier, DAILY POST reported that the Jigawa State Executive Council, chaired by Governor Namadi, had set up a 10-member committee to oversee the implementation of the new minimum wage. The committee is led by the State Head of Service, Muhammad Dagaceri, with the Permanent Private Secretary to the Governor serving as Secretary.
In addition to the wage increase, Governor Namadi has approved over N5 billion to settle outstanding pension benefits for retirees, some of whom have been waiting for over 20 months. Hon. Ado praised the governor for his continued efforts to enhance the livelihoods of both civil servants and pensioners in the state.
