NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi revealed that Okenwa and his associate, Sunny Okeh Ukah, were apprehended on July 30, 2022. They pleaded guilty on July 17, 2023, and were subsequently sentenced to four and three years in prison, respectively, with fines of four million naira and three million naira each. In addition, community service for four and three weeks was imposed. The vehicle belonging to Okenwa, marked EKY 496 DJ, was also forfeited to the Federal Government.

To further prevent Okenwa from benefiting from his criminal activities, NDLEA pursued a civil forfeiture charge against the building used as a clandestine laboratory. The Federal High Court in Lagos initially granted an interim forfeiture order that expired on December 6, leading to the final forfeiture on December 7, 2023.

Meanwhile, in Imo State, NDLEA operatives intercepted a way-billed consignment on December 14, containing 2.287kg of cocaine along the Owerri-Onitsha expressway. The suspect claimed that her son, Segun, who is currently at large, supplied her with the illicit substances for retail.

In another operation in Nasarawa State on December 15, more than 100kg of cannabis concealed in the ceiling of a dealer named Ibrahim Yahaya’s house in the Tudun Kofa area was seized, and Yahaya was arrested.

At the SAHCO export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, NDLEA operatives, in collaboration with personnel from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), intercepted over 1.5 million pills of tramadol 225mg and rohypnol in a cargo bound for South Africa. Two suspects, Bada Olanrewaju Akorede and Amusan Olufela Sharafadeen, have been taken into custody in connection with the consignment, which includes 1,050,000 pills of tramadol 225mg and 510,000 tablets of rohypnol.
