In a one-count charge, Ikaa pleaded guilty to the accusations. Prosecuting counsel Aso Larrys Peter, in light of the plea, urged the court to convict him as charged. The defense counsel, Abel Adaji, appealed for leniency, emphasizing Ikaa’s remorsefulness and first-time offender status.

Justice Nwite subsequently sentenced Ikaa to five years in prison, offering an alternative of a N5,000,000 fine. Additionally, Ikaa forfeited his iPhone 13 and a 2013 model Toyota Avalon to the Federal government. The EFCC statement outlined that the recovered $11,000 would be returned to the victims. Ikaa also committed to abstaining from cybercrime in the future.

Ikaa’s legal troubles began when the EFCC apprehended him for operating a fraudulent cryptocurrency investment website, promising lucrative returns. This deceit led to significant losses, amounting to 26 bitcoins, for victims from South Africa, Norway, the United Kingdom, and Barbados. Confronted with evidence of his fraudulent activities, Ikaa admitted to the charges, marking the start of his journey to the correctional center.
