Wike, recognized for his role in the election of Fubara and other officials, arrived at the State House around 7 pm and joined the meeting in the President’s office. Also in attendance were Vice President Kashim Shettima, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and the President’s Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila.
At the conclusion of the meeting on Monday night, an eight-point resolution was signed. Among the key points were directives from the President to withdraw all lawsuits related to the political crisis in Rivers State initiated by Fubara and his team. Furthermore, Fubara was instructed to present the 2024 appropriation bill to the entire State House of Assembly, dropping all impeachment proceedings against him.
The resolution also acknowledged the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, along with the 27 members who resigned from the PDP. It emphasized the reinstatement of remunerations and benefits for assembly members and their staff, asserting that the Governor should not interfere with the assembly’s funding. The Assembly was granted the autonomy to choose its location for legislative activities without executive interference.
Additionally, the Governor was tasked with resubmitting the names of commissioners who resigned due to the political crisis for approval by the House of Assembly. The resolution rejected the establishment of caretaker committees for local governments, declaring the dissolution of the Local Government administration as null and void.
The political crisis in Rivers State had escalated to the demolition of the state House of Assembly complex, previously burned, with security personnel reportedly blocking the entrance. The resolutions aim to address and resolve the multifaceted issues that had led to the crisis, providing a framework for moving forward in the political landscape of Rivers State.
