In an interview with FATTEH HAMID, John revealed that his father left Nigeria when he was just a few months old. Raised by his mother and later by his father’s elder brother, Williams Ibironke, John faced numerous challenges growing up. Life became particularly difficult after his mother remarried, and he decided to embark on a quest to find his long-lost father.

John shared that his mother had told him about his father’s caring nature and how their lives might have been different if he had been present. Despite the challenges, John’s determination to find his father only grew stronger as he faced taunts and abuses from friends and relatives who labeled him a fatherless boy.

Recalling the journey, John mentioned a Yoruba adage that inspired him: “It is only a bastard who won’t look for his father; a true son will find his father.” Despite the lack of support from his mother and stepfather, John saved up money during a school vacation and traveled from Ilesa, Osun State, to Lagos.

Upon reaching Ebute Metta, John visited his father’s last known residence and learned from Joseph’s wife that his uncle, the only link he knew, had already passed away. Undeterred, John obtained the address for Igbara Oke, his father’s hometown, and embarked on a journey filled with hope. After reaching Ilesa and then Igbara Oke, John began searching for his extended family members, hoping to find any leads to his father. The emotional journey reflects the determination and resilience of a son determined to reconnect with the father he barely knew but longed to find.
