A fuel attendant at one NNPCL outlet confirmed the development to journalists on Thursday, saying, “It was reduced to ₦890 per litre this afternoon, down from ₦945 — a ₦55 drop in price.”
In a similar move, MRS Empire Energy also adjusted its pump prices on Thursday to ₦885 and ₦946 per litre, down from ₦910 and ₦955, respectively.
This development follows just two days after the Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced a cut in its ex-depot price of petrol from ₦850 to ₦820 per litre. The announcement, made by Anthony Chiejina, Chief Branding and Communications Officer of the Dangote Group, took effect on August 12, 2025.
In its statement, the refinery reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria’s economic growth and assured a consistent, uninterrupted supply of petroleum products. As part of its sustainability initiative, Dangote Petroleum Refinery also revealed plans to deploy 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks for nationwide fuel distribution.
