The governor communicated this in a formal letter to the House of Assembly, which was read during Tuesday’s plenary by Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin.
In the letter, Makinde requested leave and officially delegated his duties to Lawal, who will function as Acting Governor throughout the period.
According to Ogundoyin, the letter aligns with Section 190(1) of the Nigerian Constitution, which requires a governor to notify the legislature in writing before going on leave.
Part of the letter read: “I hereby transmit that during the period indicated above, the Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, shall serve as Acting Governor. I shall resume duty upon my return from vacation on Monday, September 29, 2025.”
The Speaker emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to constitutional order and smooth governance in the state.
With the notification formally accepted, Lawal will take over the governor’s duties from August 29 until Makinde’s return on September 29.
