Breaking: Tinubu Installs New Commander At The Helm Of Military Pensions Board

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Idris Adamu as the new Chairman of the Military Pensions Board, with the appointment taking effect from December 1, 2025.

The decision forms part of the administration’s broader effort to strengthen pension management for retired armed forces personnel and ensure they receive their benefits promptly and transparently.

AVM Adamu, a seasoned officer of the Nigerian Air Force, brings a wealth of expertise to the role. Throughout his distinguished career, he served in several strategic finance and command capacities, including Directing Staff at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Deputy Director of Budget at the Defence Intelligence Agency, and Principal Staff Officer (Finance) at the Air Warfare Centre.

He further served as Commander of the 081 Pay and Accounting Group, handled financial operations at the NAF Headquarters, and also led the Nigerian Air Force Investment Limited, overseeing the affairs of NAFIL Group of Companies. His most recent posting was as a senior faculty member at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru.

President Tinubu has charged the newly appointed chairman to deploy his financial expertise and leadership acumen to enhance the welfare of military pensioners and uphold accountability in the board’s activities.

AVM Adamu assumes office at a crucial period as the Military Pensions Board continues reforms aimed at safeguarding the entitlements of Nigeria’s retired service members.
