In his 7 p.m. address to the nation, Tinubu also declared the suspension of Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who have been embroiled in a power struggle with the governor.

Explaining his decision, Tinubu stated: “After carefully assessing the political situation in Rivers State, and given that the Governor and Deputy Governor failed to request my intervention as required by Section 305(5) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), I am left with no choice but to invoke Section 305 to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State, effective today, March 18, 2025.”

He further declared that Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly are suspended for an initial period of six months.
