He stressed the importance of individuals fulfilling their financial obligations, warning that any failure to do so will result in the land being reassigned to other interested parties once the grace period ends.
Wike made these statements during a routine inspection of key infrastructure projects underway within the FCT, including the 15-kilometre left-hand service carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) from Ring Road 1 to Wasa Junction, the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal complex in Dakibiyu, Jabi District, and the 5-kilometre Saburi Road.
In a press statement following the inspection, Wike addressed concerns regarding the publication of names of plot owners who have not paid their Certificate of Occupancy fees. He clarified that the list was based on existing records and assured that those who have proof of payment will be treated accordingly.
Reiterating that the grace period for fee payments would not be extended, Wike emphasized the importance of compliance for the generation of revenue to support the FCT’s development. He pointed out that some of the land allocations were over a decade old, adding, “It is crucial for individuals to meet their obligations. Once the grace period ends, these lands will be reallocated to others.”
When asked about potential distractions affecting his plans for the FCT in 2025, the Minister affirmed that he remains focused on his responsibilities. He acknowledged that grievances are an inevitable part of governance and that it’s unrealistic to expect universal approval.
