In Akure, a 25-year-old suspected cultist, Borokini Ayodeji, revealed that hunger and lack of support from his family drove him to steal. During an interview, Ayodeji admitted to being a member of the Eiye confraternity and confessed to stealing from a government general hospital in Akure due to hunger.
He also shared that he is a trained tailor but had no financial support to establish his business, which led him to commit the crime.
In addition, a 16-year-old secondary school student from Akure, whose name is withheld, was paraded for allegedly raping a 24-year-old neighbor at knifepoint.
The suspect claimed the attack was unprovoked and expressed deep regret for his actions, saying, “I don’t know what came over me. I regret my actions.”
Amotekun’s state commander, Adetunji Adeleye, stated that 29 suspects, including seven others currently under interrogation, were arrested for crimes ranging from rape and burglary to attempted murder. He explained that the arrests were part of intensified patrols and intelligence gathering across the state.
Adeleye assured residents that Amotekun is committed to ensuring safety and reducing criminal activities, especially during the festive season.
He also reported the capture of a notorious vehicle and motorcycle theft syndicate member and a serial housebreaker who had been jailed twice in the past three years.
