Chelsea Suffer Major Blow As Joao Pedro Is Ruled Out Of Manchester United Clash

Chelsea have suffered a significant setback ahead of their Premier League clash with Manchester United, with forward Joao Pedro ruled out after sustaining a thigh injury expected to keep him sidelined for several weeks.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso confirmed the development ahead of the club’s Carabao Cup encounter with Liverpool, describing the Brazilian’s absence as a major loss for his team.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Pedro, 25, has not featured for Chelsea since their 2-0 victory over Everton on October 17 and is expected to miss several upcoming matches while recovering from the injury.

“He has an injury of his thigh and is going to be out for a few weeks. Let’s see how many,” Alonso said.

The manager added that the club would avoid setting a definite recovery date, although the forward would not be available for Chelsea’s next few fixtures.

“He’s a key player. We’ll miss him. We have to be ready to deal with the injury, starting tomorrow with Liverpool,” Alonso stated.

Pedro’s latest injury marks his second significant fitness setback of the season, following a knee problem that kept him out of action for a month in September.

His absence comes at an important stage of the campaign, particularly given his impressive performances for Chelsea. The former Brighton forward has scored five goals and provided three assists this season, following a previous campaign in which he recorded 20 goals across all competitions.

Pedro also missed Chelsea’s 2-0 home defeat to Tottenham, during which Alonso deployed Morgan Rogers in an improvised attacking role.

With the Brazilian unavailable for the trip to Manchester United, Chelsea will need to identify alternative options to maintain their attacking threat and creativity during a demanding run of fixtures.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Emegha could have an opportunity to increase his involvement after returning to training following his own injury problems.

The Netherlands international joined Chelsea from Strasbourg in September and has spent the past 10 days to two weeks rebuilding his fitness during training sessions.

Alonso welcomed the forward’s return, highlighting the qualities he could bring to the team, but stressed that he must regain full fitness before becoming a regular option.

“For sure it’s important that we have him available because he has special qualities,” the manager said.

He added that Emegha had been training well and building a solid fitness foundation, suggesting the forward could feature against Liverpool.

Emegha’s potential involvement could provide Chelsea with an additional attacking option as the club seeks to cope with Pedro’s absence while awaiting the Brazilian’s return.
