He asserted that achieving this cooperation is contingent upon accurate and comprehensive media reporting of military activities.

Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja made these remarks in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, during the Nigerian Army Civil-Military Cooperation media dialogue.

He was represented at the event by Maj.-Gen. Bamidele Alabi, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2nd Division of the Nigerian Army.

The COAS reaffirmed the military’s commitment to addressing the nation’s security challenges and ensuring the safety of its citizens.

He explained that the media dialogue aimed to keep journalists well-informed, dispel rumors, and provide precise and timely information to the media, recognizing their vital role in nation-building.

Highlighting the evolving security challenges in Nigeria, including the fight against terrorists, insurgents, and criminals, Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja stressed the importance of collaboration with the media.

He noted that the multi-dimensional approach adopted by the Nigerian Army under his leadership requires the involvement of all stakeholders, particularly the media.

Discussing the theme of the media dialogue, “Leveraging Media To Enhance Nigeria’s Internal Security Operations,” the COAS stated, “In times like these, when the nation faces various internal security challenges, the Nigerian Army, under my leadership, has embraced a multi-dimensional approach that necessitates collaboration with all stakeholders, especially the media, in confronting these challenges.”

Maj.-Gen. Nosakhare Ugbo, the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, underscored that the Nigerian Army organized the civil-military cooperation media dialogue as part of its efforts to keep the media well-informed about its civil-military cooperation and relations activities.

This initiative aims to eliminate misinformation and provide accurate and timely information, aligning with international best practices.
