The misleading post claimed, “The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has died in an undisclosed overseas hospital from stage three cancer. His death has been kept secret due to lobbying by some Generals seeking his position.”

Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, born on February 28, 1968, in Ilobu, Osun State, was appointed by President Bola Tinubu as the 27th Chief of Army Staff in June 2023.

However, sources at Army Headquarters confirmed that while the army chief is critically ill, he is not deceased. One source stated, “COAS is not dead; he is critically ill. We should pray for him during this challenging time instead of spreading rumors.”

Another source indicated that Lagbaja is currently receiving treatment abroad and emphasized that there has been no news of his death from anyone close to him, noting that such information could not be easily concealed.
