Cholera Risk: Kano Advises Against Drinking Rainwater To Prevent Outbreak....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Kano State Government has cautioned residents against consuming rainwater to prevent cholera outbreaks during the ongoing rainy season. The advice, conveyed by Ibrahim Abdullahi, Head of the Public Relations Unit at the Ministry of Health, underscores the heightened cholera risks typically associated with the rainy season, which has already affected some states across the country.

Abdullahi emphasized the importance of preventive measures, stressing the need for careful examination of food and water intake, particularly vegetables, fruits, and drinking water. He highlighted that early rainwater is likely contaminated and should only be used if treated with purification methods such as boiling or filtering.

Dr. Abubakar Yusuf, the Commissioner of Health, reiterated the importance of washing vegetables and fruits thoroughly before consumption, as these items may lack proper cleanliness when purchased from markets.

The state’s commitment to healthcare was affirmed by Yusuf, assuring continuous prioritization of public health under Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration. Residents were encouraged to seek prompt medical attention at the nearest health facility if they experience any illness.

Cholera, an annual and seasonal disease exacerbated by poor sanitation, has seen a recent global increase, with significant cases and fatalities reported by the World Health Organization in 2024.
