A Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, has ordered substituted service on key witnesses involved in the ongoing inquest into the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.

According to Punch, the witnesses include Azeez Fashola (aka Naira Marley), Samson Eletu (aka Sam Larry), Karimot Ogunbayo (Mohbad’s sister-in-law), Boluwatife Adeyemo (aka Darosha), and Mohbad’s lawyer, Oluwasanmi Falade. Also listed are Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the nurse who reportedly treated Mohbad before his death, and Fidelis Esanbor, the driver who transported him to the hospital.

Magistrate T. A. Sotobi approved an application submitted by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, to issue witness summons to additional witnesses through a national newspaper and social media. The application was granted during the court session on August 16, as stated by the Aloba family’s legal team, represented by Monisola Odumosu.

The legal team, led by Mr. Wahab Shittu SAN, argued for the issuance of witness summons to individuals who might have information about the circumstances leading to Mohbad’s death. The summons is to be served via substituted means to ensure the witnesses appear in court promptly.

The legal team also requested the court to issue witness summons to several individuals, including Naira Marley, Sam Larry, Nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and others, to provide testimony about Mohbad’s death, which occurred under suspicious circumstances on September 12, 2023.

The court was informed that previous efforts to serve these witnesses had been unsuccessful. The coroner’s court also granted the request to recall Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, and the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) in charge of the case, ASP Muhammad Yusuf, to clarify new issues that have emerged.

Akinpelu Ogunbona, a lawyer representing Ibrahim Owodunni (aka Primeboy), argued for the recall of Wunmi and the IPO, citing new information that needed further explanation to understand the circumstances of Mohbad’s death better.

The coroner adjourned the case to allow compliance with the orders and for the witnesses to appear on the next adjourned date. Mohbad died at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances.
