Josh Okogie Joins Houston Rockets
Josh Okogie headlines the Nigerian contingent on the move this summer after sealing a free-agent deal with the Houston Rockets. The 26-year-old guard reunites with former Phoenix Suns teammate Kevin Durant as the Rockets, led by Nigerian-American coach Ime Udoka, aim for a strong title push.
With seven years of NBA experience, Okogie is expected to play a key defensive role for Houston. He has averaged 6.3 points and 3.0 rebounds across 416 career games, ranking fourth in steals per 36 minutes (2.8) last season. The Rockets open their pre-season with scrimmages against the Atlanta Hawks, Utah Jazz, and New Orleans Pelicans before their October 22 season opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Okogie also suited up for D’Tigers at the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket in Angola, helping Nigeria reach the quarter-finals.
Caleb Agada Signs for Força Lleida
Point guard Caleb Agada has joined Spanish side Hiopos Força Lleida in the Liga ACB. The 31-year-old journeyman, who has featured in seven countries across three continents, returns to Spain after previous stints with CB Prat and Melilla.
Agada played a pivotal role in Al Ahli Tripoli’s historic Basketball Africa League victory earlier this year, earning a spot on the all-defensive first team. His leadership and defensive grit will be vital for Lleida, who open against Breogan on October 4.
Ezinne Kalu Heads to Wuhan Shengfan
D’Tigress stalwart Ezinne Kalu has signed with Wuhan Shengfan in the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA). The 33-year-old guard arrives from Zhejiang, where she averaged 21.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.8 assists last season.
A four-time FIBA Women’s AfroBasket champion, Kalu played a crucial role in Nigeria’s fifth straight continental title win this summer. Her move to Wuhan adds to a globe-trotting career spanning France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Russia, Turkey, and Hungary.
Murjanatu Musa Joins Basket Landes
After a brief stint with the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, Murjanatu Musa has signed for French giants Basket Landes. The 6’2” centre impressed last season with Tarbes Gespe Bigorre, averaging nearly 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Musa also contributed to Nigeria’s AfroBasket triumph, posting 7.8 points per game as D’Tigress extended their decade-long unbeaten run. She is expected to be a key force for Landes both domestically and in European competitions.
Lauren Ebo Makes Spanish Move
Lauren Ebo, another vital member of D’Tigress, has joined Club Joventut Badalona in Spain’s Liga Femenina Endesa. The 6’4” centre leaves Polish side KS Basket, where she averaged 15.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.
Ebo, who represented Nigeria at the Paris 2024 Olympics, will be looking to establish herself as a dominant presence when Badalona face Jairis in their October 4 opener.
