The attack reportedly occurred at a construction site in Gumki village, Arewa Local Government Area, Kebbi State, where the victims were installing a surveillance mast for the NIS. The assault claimed the lives of the officials and an unidentified individual.
Conflicting accounts have emerged regarding the victims’ identities. While police reports identified three of the deceased as Airtel employees, local residents maintained they were NIS personnel. A representative from Sir Yahaya Specialist Hospital corroborated the residents’ claim, stating the victims admitted to the facility were immigration staff.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Nafiu Abubakar told Daily Trust that four individuals died in the attack: one local resident and three Airtel workers.
Following the incident, Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, and Comptroller of the NIS Kebbi Command, CIS Muhammad Bashir Lawali, sent teams to recover the bodies, which were transferred to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi.
The Commissioner of Police has deployed additional tactical units to the area to combat the suspected bandits and held a meeting with local residents, urging them to share critical information to aid security efforts.
This latest attack in Lakurawa comes just a week after the group reportedly killed two police officers in a separate incident.
