The couple’s legal team has formally demanded a public apology, warning that they will pursue legal action if the senator does not comply. In a letter dated March 27, 2025, with the reference WIC/W/AB/W3/25, the lawyers representing Chief Uduaghan, a high chief in Warri Kingdom, and Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, Kogi Central Senatorial District, accused Nwaebonyi of making damaging statements during a television interview.
The comments were aired on News Central TV and its affiliated platforms, including DSTV, GOTV, Startimes, and AVO.
During the interview, Nwaebonyi allegedly made derogatory remarks about Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, suggesting that she had a history of making false sexual harassment allegations. He also implied that her marriage to Chief Uduaghan was not based on mutual affection but rather coercion.
The couple’s legal representatives have condemned Nwaebonyi’s statements as a deliberate attempt to harm their clients’ reputations. The remarks, which quickly spread across social media, were described as part of an effort to tarnish the public image of both individuals.
The letter further argued that Nwaebonyi’s comments falsely portrayed Chief Uduaghan as a victim of blackmail and Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan as someone with questionable morals. These false allegations have caused significant harm, creating distrust and embarrassment among their political, social, and business circles.
The legal team has demanded that Senator Nwaebonyi issue a public apology within 14 days, to be broadcast on News Central TV and widely shared on social media platforms. Failure to comply will result in legal action being taken to seek redress.
