The party criticized Lah’s efforts to facilitate a leadership transition that would benefit former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye, whom they labeled as the “weakest politician” in the state.
According to Alhaji Ibrahim Dansofo, spokesperson for the PDP Elders Council, the party has lost its influence and is now considered a third-tier force in Kogi due to poor electoral performance.
The Elders Council condemned any moves to hand over leadership to Melaye, warning that such actions would face significant opposition. “We are aware of the plans to create a faction within the party that could lead to legal conflicts,” the statement said.
The party also highlighted the success of the recent congress held on July 28 and 29 and called on the National Working Committee, led by Chairman Iliya Damagum and Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, to intervene. They accused Lah of acting as a puppet for Melaye and undermining the party’s unity.
The statement pointed out Melaye’s poor electoral track record, noting that he failed to secure votes even in his own ward during the last gubernatorial election, which underscores his ineffective leadership.
The Kogi PDP lamented the departure of members and the lack of interest in the party ahead of the local government elections. With no serious candidates stepping forward to purchase PDP nomination forms, the party stressed the need for urgent restructuring to restore its position in the state.
