Ebola Scare: Suspected Index Case Evacuated From Nigeria By Air Ambulance

Published

A patient suspected to be Nigeria’s Ebola index case has reportedly been evacuated from the country by air ambulance following a medical operation at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

According to Bush Radio Academy, citing reports of the incident, the evacuation took place early in the morning at the airport’s private jet wing, where officials reportedly restricted access as the medical team prepared to transport the patient.

Sources cited in the reports identified the patient as a woman said to be married to a Swiss diplomat serving in Nigeria. However, the details surrounding her identity and medical condition have not been independently verified.

Footage reportedly obtained at the airport showed a convoy of vehicles, including ambulances and diplomatic vehicles, arriving at the private aviation section. A vehicle belonging to an international agency was also said to have been part of the convoy.

The reports indicated that a medical evacuation aircraft was already at the airport ahead of the operation, with arrangements reportedly made for the patient to be flown out of Nigeria at about 6:00 a.m.

Airport officials were said to have cordoned off the private wing during the operation. Video footage later emerged showing the medical aircraft and crew involved in the evacuation.

The reported development has drawn attention amid concerns over the suspected Ebola case. However, the circumstances of the evacuation, the patient’s confirmed diagnosis and her destination were not fully established in the information available.

Health authorities have yet to be quoted in the supplied report confirming the details of the patient’s condition. Further official clarification would be needed to establish whether the patient was confirmed to have Ebola and to provide verified information about the evacuation.
