This document is designed to provide guidelines and implementation strategies for conserving and promoting both tangible and intangible heritage resources in the state. The ultimate goal is to position Edo as a preferred tourist destination.
According to a press release issued by the State’s Commissioner for Arts, Culture, and Tourism, Uyi Oduwa Malaka, Edo will also participate in this year’s World Tourism Day (WTD) celebration, taking place on September 27.
Malaka explained, “World Tourism Day, established by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), serves to raise awareness of the significance of tourism and its social, cultural, and economic contributions to humanity.”
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Tourism and Green Investment,” highlighting the crucial importance of investing in a sustainable tourism sector that benefits both people and the planet.
Malaka emphasized, “Tourism serves as a positive force of nature, connecting our heritage, history, and contemporary life. It bridges cultures, civilizations, and unites humanity in a shared narrative of origins and experiences.”
As part of the World Tourism Day activities, the state will unveil its Heritage Promotion and Protection Policy at the Ogba Zoological Garden on Wednesday, September 27, 2033.
