In an open letter addressed to President Tinubu and titled “Why Edo State Deserves Special Consideration,” Mayaki emphasized that allocating a ministerial slot to the state would significantly bolster the APC’s position and enhance their prospects of regaining power from the PDP in the upcoming 2024 gubernatorial election.
The letter outlined the challenges faced by APC members due to Edo State’s status as an opposition stronghold under PDP control.
Mayaki expressed how these circumstances have created an unfavorable political environment for APC members, with hindrances ranging from the non-inauguration of State House of Assembly members to suppression of voices and lack of benefits.
Mayaki also highlighted the difficulties encountered during the 2020 governorship election, pointing out the lack of substantial support from the central government and the election outcome.
He stressed the urgency of a revamped strategy in the lead-up to the forthcoming election year, emphasizing the need for encouragement and support to secure victory aligned with the party’s aspirations and the desires of the electorate.
Respectfully appealing to President Tinubu, Mayaki requested special attention for Edo State in his incoming administration.
He specifically urged consideration for two ministerial positions for Edo State, recognizing the significance of strengthening the APC’s presence and potential in the region.
Furthermore, Mayaki implored the President to contemplate assigning a substantial portfolio within his yet-to-be-formed cabinet to Edo State.
This prominent role, he explained, would not only uplift the spirits of party members but also facilitate positive change and development in the state’s infrastructure and federal presence.
Overall, the letter conveyed Mayaki’s hope for Edo State to receive distinct recognition and prominence within the APC’s upcoming endeavors under President Tinubu’s leadership.
