In a statement released on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo emphasized the importance of security and reassured residents that his administration is committed to ensuring the safety of all in Edo State. He stated that the issue of cultism was a key topic during the security discussions, adding that his government will not tolerate cult-related violence or killings.

Okpebholo made it clear that the rampant cultism in the state, particularly in Benin City, is unacceptable, and vowed to take decisive action. He urged security agencies to collaborate effectively and put an end to the violence, stressing that his administration would not turn a blind eye to the problem.

ā€œDuring my campaign, I prioritized security above all else, and this remains a top priority for my administration. The situation with cultism in Edo is not acceptable, and we will not allow any more lives to be lost. We have instructed the security agencies to work together to ensure that Edo is a safe place for all, but not a safe haven for criminals,ā€ Okpebholo said.

He further charged the security agencies to root out criminals hiding in the state and ensure that all residents can live peacefully without fear of violence.

Edo State’s Commissioner of Police, Umoru Peter Ozigi, also addressed the media following the meeting, saying that various security agencies discussed their concerns and ongoing efforts to address the challenges. He assured the public that the Governor had pledged his full support to the security forces in their efforts to maintain peace and safety in the state.

ā€œWe have just concluded our first security council meeting with Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo. We discussed the areas of concern and the progress made so far. The Governor has assured us of his full support and commitment to making Edo State a secure place for everyone to live and do business peacefully,ā€ said Ozigi.
