In response to the group’s demonstration, Ola Olukoyede, conveyed through the EFCC’s Acting Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwujaren, expressed gratitude for the peaceful protest and emphasized the EFCC’s unwavering stance against corruption. Olukoyede assured that under his leadership, corruption would not be tolerated, and all high-profile cases inherited by the commission would be thoroughly reviewed, including the allegations against Bello Mattawalle.
Uwujaren reiterated Olukoyede’s commitment, stating, “The EFCC Chairman has asked me to assure you that this case, like others, would not be an exception. The case will be reviewed, and the Chairman is assuring you that something will be done under the law.” He emphasized the principle that no one is above the law, and cases would not be overlooked or disregarded.
The Zamfara Alternative Forum, during their appeal to the EFCC, stressed the need for a renewed investigation into the alleged ₦70 billion money laundering, citing the potential deterrent effect on others contemplating corrupt practices in public office. The group’s spokesperson, Mahmud Abubakar, highlighted the adverse impacts of mismanagement of public funds, including hindrances to development, revenue loss, and a decline in the quality of life for the people.
The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mattawalle, is currently under EFCC investigation for allegations involving corruption, the award of fictitious contracts, and the diversion of over N70 billion during his tenure as governor. The EFCC remains committed to a thorough and impartial examination of the case to ensure accountability and adherence to the rule of law.
